Icom In The Ham Shack

Icom is making some awesome base transceivers these days. The one thing I like in their transceiver design is the big boxy look. They also have many different buttons and controls to learn and have fun with. As far as ratings and reviews go, they do very well for themselves. If you check out eham.net you will find that they are just awesome ham radios. In fact the Icom 7200 HF, 50mhz transceiver has an awesome 4.8 out 5 rating at about 176 reviews. The price range isn't to bad either below a thousand dollars. Check out the radio below for a link and information below the link picture.

ICOM IC-7200 Transceiver

  • The latest IF DSP technology is employed in the IC-7200. While the IC-7200 is an entry-class transceiver, advanced digital features are comparable to higher class transceivers.
  • Waterproof protection technologies that are used in Icom's marine radios are applied to the buttons and knobs on the front panel to provide a measure of protection against water intrusion. *IC-7200 is not waterproof.
  • AGC loop management Distortion and blocking from strong nearby signals are prevented by placing DSP functions inside the AGC loop. The AGC time constants are selectable from fast, slow and off for each operating mode.
  • Digital IF filter Optional filters will never be required for the IC-7200. The built-in digital filter allows you to flexibly select the filter width and shape from soft and sharp* and provides cutting-edge filter characteristics. *Filter shape is selectable for SSB and CW modes only.
  • Manual notch filter The manual notch filter delivers more than 70dB of attenuation. Strong interring tones will be eliminated without adversely affecting the AGC loop performance. ON the bottom right of the front panel, a dedicated control knob adjusts the notch filter frequency.
The next step is into a higher class ICOM Transceiver. You will find that it is even more intense as buttons and features go. It is one of those extremely nice Ham Radio Transceivers that perform exceptionally well for all your dx occasions. It is the typical transceiver that we generally see today that puts out 100 watts, which is plenty to drive any ameritron legal limit amplifier. The ratings and reviews are not too bad at eham.net with a 4.3 out of 5 and only 43 reviews. Most of the reviews were good with a few exceptions, which is to be expected. If you know electronics then you know Murphy's Law. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Believe me it's true. Below is a picture link to the Amazon webpage and some additional information below it.

Now these are just a couple of the excellent Icom transceivers that you could add to your Ham Shack. My advise is to check out the other transceivers by Icom at this link ICOM RADIOS. If you want to check out the reviews for the Icom Radios or any Transceiver here is the link to the website http://www.eham.net/reviews/products/14 . Just remember that there are plenty of used HAM RADIOS at Ebay as well, so check out the link to the website at ebay.
