Don't Upgrade That Old Slow Windows 7 PC To Windows 10

Computer Tech Advise: Don't Upgrade That Old Windows 7 PC To Windows 10 . First There Are No New Drivers For 2019. Second The Older PC Has Slower Memory & A Slower Microprocessor. This Means A Slower Front Side Buss Speed. This Is The Speed At Which The Data Travels Back And Forth Between The CPU and Memory.
Where I Work Their Answer Is To Install A SSD Drive. This Make Make The System Run A Little Faster, But Your Still Dealing With An Older System. I Get Quite A Few Customers Where Their Computer Runs Okay And Then When Microsoft Comes Out With A New Windows 10 Version, Their Computers Fails Or Has Various Errors. What Is The Best Ham Radio Antenna Tower - US TOWER TX-472MDP Free Standing 72' Motorized Crank Up Ham Radio Tower

What is the best Ham Radio Antenna Tower To Use ? Well you have the Free Standers, Guyed Towers, Crank Up Towers and Tilt Over Towers. In the past I had a 40 foot antenna tower that I designed to tilt over and lay right up the pitch of the house roof. We basically lived behind a school field, so we tied a heavy duty rope to the truck. Next we would slowly let the tower tilt over and lay up  the roof. I then went up on the roof and did whatever repair needed to be done. I had that tower cemented into the ground, wall mounted to the garage and had some guy wires on it as well. Needless to say it never had a problem. What can I say, my Mom loved me. Hi Hi

If I ever put up a tower again, it will be a crank up tower, with a motor winch. Plus it will have the capability to tilt over. There other idea I like is to have the ham antenna tower tram set up. The tram will ride up and down the tower for easy maintenance. The only issue I have heard about is that the tram can get stuck. I have heard of some hams replacing the wheels with other wheels. I would suggest doing some searching youtube for various videos that may help.

The main thing with any ham radio tower is stay safe. Check out your area thoroughly for high power lines and anything that may make a dangerous situation.

Don't Hate Me - CB Radio Isn't Dead - It's Just Sleeping !

Click Here To Check Out This CB Radio New Base
Galaxy DX 2547 AM / SSB Base

The CB Radio Hobby is pretty quiet these days. Yes those days back in the 70s when it seemed as though everyone was on the air has died off. There are still CB Radio operators out there shooting skip. Yes when the skip rolls in they all come along right with it. I live fairly close to the thruway and I listen to the truck drivers as they chatter back and forth.

Today I spend most of my time on the computer working on a website or two. I just created this website CB Radio 123 to see if anyone is looking for a nice new or used cb radio or gear. Most of the time I am on the Ham Radio as I have my General Ham Radio License. I do have my CB Radio Bases and I fire them up and do some listening or copying the mail.

Yes I have my Cobra 135 23 channel that was long ago converted to 40 channels. I also have a Cobra 142 GTL and my main Texas Ranger TR 696F-SSB Base. I use a IMAX 2000 Vertical that I use for CB and Ham. I still have my pdc meters, silver eagle and d104 power mics as well. As far as my Ham Radio goes, it is a Kewood TS 2000 HF, VHF, UHF all band radio and I love it.
So if you love CB Radio and want to keep it going, visit my CB Radio Website and check it out.

Thank Your For Stopping By From Dan KC2YTI 73s from the Stormtrooper.

How Are You Going To Mount Your Base Ham Antenna Or CB Base Antenna ?

Many of us Ham Radio Operators and CB Radio Operators face the dilemma of where and how are we going to mount are antennas. Well I am going through the same issue and am going over my property to decide how I am going to do this. I do not have a big backyard, the one side yard has high power lines and the other side has the driveway. I have thought about a antenna tower up the side of the house, but it's just not in the budget.
At this time I had a multiband dipole going from a push up steel mast, with the apex at the chimney on a 10 foot tall mast and then down to a tree in the front yard. This puts the apex up about 35 feet and it does a nice job. On that same mast I have a imax 2000 cb antenna, which I use for 17 meters and I listen to 20 meters and sometimes 40 meters. It also functions as my 11 meter cb antenna.
I would like to put up another ham antenna, but just am not sure what to do. I have a place to put a hustler 6btv, but no room for lots of ground radials. I have been thinking about other way for ground radials. The other idea I have been thinking about is making a delta loop antenna with a mast, wire, 4 to 1 balun and two 16 foot crappie  fiberglass fishing poles. I also have a mfj rotatable 14 foot dipole that I could put up on the chimney.

I decided in the meantime to create a website for various ways of mounting antennas, so click my link now  https://hamradio123.wixsite.com/antenna-tower

Do You Like Photography ?

I have found that for some reason many Ham Radio Operators like Photography. Maybe it is just a coincidence, but I love it and I thought I would share my Photography Website, where you can purchase cameras and more. Photography can help with a drone with camera. In other words, you could fly the drone up near your ham antenna to get a better look at it. There is a link on my photography website for a drone with a camera.

Yaesu Original FT-991A HF/50/140/430 MHz All Mode"Field Gear" Transceiver - 100 Watts (50 Watts on 140/430MHz) - 3 Year Warranty

https://amzn.to/2MC8Zag

Yaesu Original FT-991A HF/50/140/430 MHz All Mode"Field Gear" Transceiver - 100 Watts (50 Watts on 140/430MHz) - 3 Year Warranty

FT-991A is creatively designed to fit into a very compact (W9.0” xH3.2” x D9.3”) rugged case and will deliver up to 100 Watts solid output power (50 Watts on 140/430MHz) on SSB, CW, AM, FM, Packet and C4FM Digital on the popular HF/50/140/430MHz bands. The new dynamic real-time spectrum scope gives radio operators the ability to graphically view the location of signals on the band while they listen to the received audio allowing them to quickly move to the desired signal. The strength of signals on the band can readily be seen on the Multi-color waterfall display. Chronological order color differentiation allows operators to easily recognize weak signals at a glance; signals that might otherwise be missed on the spectrum scope. These additional exciting functions enable more efficient and satisfying operating time while making important contacts on the crowded HF and 6 meter bands. We believe that the new FT-991A will be widely accepted as an ideal field gear rig by the majority of the ham radio operators who want to enjoy reliable and flawless communication on all the HF and V/UHF bands with just one radio. The FT-991A naturally contains all the features packed into the original version of the FT-991 including a 3kHz roofing filter for the triple conversion receiver that effectively attenuates interfering signals and enables outstanding performance while still producing high quality audio. The 32bit high speed floating point DSP provides effective cancellation and reduction (DNR) of random noise, and the Auto Notch (DNF) automatically eliminates QRM caused by dominant beat tones while the receiver’s Contour function and APF (Audio Peak Filter) can be used to further reduce undesired noise. A built-in 3.5inch full-color touch screen high resolution display allows stress-free operability and visibility.

The Mfj Octopus Multiband Rotatable Dipole Using Hamsticks

You can click the link to get to the video or just click the video below. https://youtu.be/vPGan3zGLrU

I have seen this in the Mfj Catalog and I thought it looked interesting. I have thought about the Mfj rotatable dipole and mounting them on a vertical mast, then using my ameritron switch to change between them. This could be in the Attic if your Attic is big enough.
Well I saw the Mfj Octopus and I like the idea of it. I could mount it on the top of the vertical mast at about 25ft. I could use a light weight rotor to rotate it. If you use a fiberglass mast I would guy it. You may have to fit it on the diameter that fits. You could also use a Metal Push Up Mast. This seems like it may not stand out too much for those HOA Issues. I don't have that problem. I have found it on Ebay, so I thought I would share a few links. There are also a few Amazon links to the Mfj Big ear mentioned in the video, so check them out.

New Cameras And Photography Accessories

I just wanted to let any of my Ham Radio friends know that I have created a new photography website at https://www.photographynew.com/

If you are interested, you may just find a way to incorporate the Photography Hobby into the Ham Radio Hobby. A couple of things I thought of was to make sure you had a good camera at your next Ham Radio Fest. Another idea was to have a good camera with a telephoto lens to get a close up view of your Ham Antenna. This way you may see a problem from the ground.

If you really want to be creative, why not look into a drone with a camera. That way you can get that birds eye view of your vertical or beam antenna as well at your ham radio tower. I am sure there are more ideas out there, so share them if you like.

Thank You From Dan KC2YTI  73s and enjoy the hobbies.

HOA Ham Radio Antenna

If you are looking for a simple rotatable dipole antenna to put up, why not try the hamstick dipole antenna. Here is a link to a video below that gives an excellent example.  I can not post the actual video, because it is not in the public domain, but you can click the link and watch it yourself.

This type of antenna can be easily put up and taken down fairly quickly. Using a mfj tripod, fiberglass mast and the hamstick dipole, you can go for the DX. Here is a link to Ebay for them https://tinyurl.com/y3nv428z

Mfj Tripods at Ebay https://tinyurl.com/y3qwy6lw

Fiberglass Mast at Ebay https://tinyurl.com/yyzetdfv

I suggest the fiberglass mast, so you can get the antenna up higher. The one thing you will find is that there are hamsticks made for the various ham radio bands. So pick out your favorite band and have fun. I know that these are no the best ham antennas in town, but some antenna is better than no antenna.

Thank You Dan KC2YTI 73s and Good DX

Ham Antennas For Those Small Backyards

I am having a problem trying to decide on what ham antenna I want to put in my small backyard. It is only about 25 feet from the back of the house to the fence. The one side yard is a little bigger, but the high power lines are over it. The other side has the driveway, so it is limited there too. The front yard is out of the question except for connecting a dipole antenna.
I did have a dipole going from the push up mast to the mast on the chimney and then to a tree in the front yard. It was a 10 to 80 meter g5rv junior. It was about 35 feet at the apex and then sloped down to the tree and mast. It did not do a bad job, but I would like something better. I have some vertical antennas I could use, but don't have the room for lots of ground radials. I have thought about creating some kind of home-brew counterpoise system.
I have also been thinking about a home-brew delta loop antenna with some crappie fishing poles, 4 to 1 balun and using a push up mast. I thought about a moxon antenna, but at 20 meters it would not fit and I would not have the proper height. The more I think about it the delta loop makes the most sense. Besides it also will be multi-band.

What Kind Of Ham Antenna Should I Homebrew

I am thinking of building a Ham Antenna as the weather is getting warmer. Well I think I may build a multiband Delta Loop Antenna. I am just thinking of where I am going to place this antenna in the yard. I do have some limited choices, but I think I can manager it. It may just take the mast that my 11 meter vertical antenna is on.
I have some crappie 16 foot fishing poles to use for the base of the delta loop. I did think about which way I wanted to mount this ham antenna. I thought about the crappie fiberglass poles at the top. This would make the apex at the bottom. I thought about that some more and decided that that may make it top heavy, but not by much. So I will make it with the crappie poles at the bottom.
The next decision is where I will make the connection to the 4 to 1 balun. I have seen some hams make it to the left or right. I have seen others make it right in the center, with pretty good results. I think this is the way to go and it will provide the best results. This way I can draw the coax cable to the house and down to my antenna switch.
My idea for the crappie poles is to mount them to a piece of metal sign post tubing. I have some circular brackets for pipe that will bolt to it. I will then bolt that to an old full 5/8 cb antenna mount that was retired from my ground plane antenna. The crappie fishing pole will slide into these and have some rubber for support. The antenna wire will go through them and up to a pulley at the apex. I don't think it will be difficult to set up. I may pull the pulley up, so I can easily lower it from the antenna mast. Well when I get this together, I will post some pictures and see how it works.

The Best 10 Meter Ham Radios In 2019

I have noticed that quite a few Ham Radio Operators are looking at the 10 Meter Ham Radios. I wonder if maybe the 10 meter ham band is going to pick up. Well I am not sure, but it would be pretty nice if it did. I no I scan around the Ham Bands and 10 meters is usually quiet. Maybe if I had a nice bi beam antenna, I would hear some chatter going on.

What Is The Best Ham Radio - Icom, Yaesu, Kenwood - New Or Used ?

First and foremost buying a Ham Radio depends on your budget. Can you afford a $600 dollar new Ham Radio or a $5000 dollar new Ham Radio ? In my opinion, if you can afford the $5000 Ham Radio, I say go for it. Obviously there will be more bells and whistles with the $5000 dollar radio. You will find that Kenwood, Icom and Yaesu all have various Ham Radios in that price category. I myself have my Kenwood TS-2000 Ham Radio and I love it.
Now if you can't afford that much money for a Ham Radio, then look at the lower end of the spectrum. In other words there are Ham Radios like the Icom IC-718 that do an excellent job.  If your preference happens to be a Yaesu Ham Radio, then I would be looking at the Yaesu Original FT-450D HF/50MHz Compact Amateur Base Transceiver - 100 Watts, IF DSP Technology. It is one nice Ham Radio that does an excellent job. Some hams are using these as a mobile radio. Now if you like the Kenwood Ham Radios, then I would check out the Kenwood TS-480HX HF/50 MHz Amateur Base Transceiver 200 Watts version. All of these are excellent radios and have their own little perks.
If your budget is still a little lower, then the used category would be the next way to go. If you are looking to spend less, then this would put you in the Ebay Used Ham Radios section. There is nothing wrong with purchasing a used Ham Radio. You will find that many hams take good care of their equipment. I still would check out the sellers ratings and reviews. It is always a buyer beware world on Ebay due to many crooks trying to take your money.
